The theory of tectonic plates is just that a theory. Earth quakes are caused by sections of the earth’s crust falling into what the scientists call magma(lava) which causes ripples in the magma(lava) which spread out until they dissipate much like unto a stone cast into a pond or a lake causing riples to spread outwards until they dissipate, aftershocks are cause by the first earthquake causing further pieces of the crust to fall off in weak spots, the depth of the quake which is measured by thy scientists is the thickness of the crust at that place. Tidal waves or tsunamis are a reflection of that which is happening in the magma(lava). Volcanoes are caused by weaknesses in the Earth's crust allowing the pressure formed in the magma(lava) to course to the surface and escape they are in effect the Earths safety valves. But how, where and when, I dictate that this should come about.
